21 Days of Praise and fellowship: Day 16

Good Morning Sisters,

We are only five days from PENTECOST and this teaching was spot on for the week we are in. On the day of Pentecost, 10 days after Jesus ascended to heaven, the disciples received the greatest and most significant gift from the Father; a gift with an incomprehensible value. “The Holy Spirit, the same Spirit who was present when the foundations of the earth were laid, the Spirit by whom our Savior was conceived, the Spirit that was with Him every day of His life on earth, that same Spirit came and made His dwelling place with the sons of men.”  Acts 2:1-4.

Pentecost celebrates the truth that the Spirit lives in us! In the book of John, Jesus taught his disciples on five different occasions what that would entail before He was killed. After He appeared/resurrected He breathed on them and said "receive a gift." The Holy Spirit is a person and He dwells within each of US and we dwell in HIM. It’s a beautiful relationship and a key to our joy and our hope.

Amanda has been studying communion, Passover and the conversations Jesus had with his disciples before He left. He was preparing his disciples for his departure. They were distressed as He was leaving them and He wanted to reassure them that the Holy Spirit would be with them. “In that rush of wind, in those tongues of flame, as the Holy Spirit came and filled the disciples, the church of the living God was born.” (1 Timothy 3:15). “In that moment Christianity became more than Jesus’ life alone: it became life in everyone who receives the Holy Spirit and walks in Him, not fulfilling the lusts of the flesh.” Galatians 5:16

Amanda taught on some of the names and titles that the Bible uses to describe the Holy Spirit.

I LOVED this teaching as I don’t think there has been enough of it in the church. If we truly understood the relationship we have with Him and the role He plays in our everyday lives we would not experience so much fear and anxiety. I encourage you to really study and meditate on these names. When we choose to be spirit led we walk in truth. Jesus is inviting us to start our eternal life NOW. As Amanda stated…”there is a difference in being a believer and a follower.

As followers we are intentional in how we live here on earth. As followers we follow Him on the cross, through death into Heaven. It can be a scary thing if we are depending on ourselves to go through these journeys.”  This is WHY we must understand our relationship with the Holy Spirit...our comforter, counselor, advocate, guide, witness, teacher and all of the many roles He plays in our lives. HE is with us! WE ARE NOT ALONE!!!

The difference that the Holy Spirit makes in the lives of those He fills is immeasurable. He fills them with a power that we cannot conceive with our carnal minds. It was the same weak Peter, who only weeks earlier had denied Jesus three times that now stood and spoke so passionately about the life and resurrection of Jesus to the great multitude of Jews who filled Jerusalem. In Acts 2 we see that 3,000 people became believers that day. It was the Holy Spirit that gave Peter the boldness and the authority that he never possessed until then. The Holy Spirit gives power beyond human abilities. What do you think our lives would begin to look like if we chose to listen and obey the promptings of the Holy Spirit each day?

Amanda ended with a beautiful prayer that Jesus prayed for all believers in John 17:20-26.

“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one... I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.

“Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.

“Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. I have made you ] known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.”

Today is day 16. Ashley Shuell will be leading.
