14 Days of Prayer Part 2: Day 9

Good Afternoon Sisters,

I LOVED taking communion with you beautiful ladies last night! POWERFUL!!! Communion is all about REMEMBERING. It’s so important for us to REMEMBER what Jesus has done for us at the cross and the power we now have through his resurrection. It’s when we fail to remember that we get into doubt and worry. Rita talked about the grip that worry and fear had over her life for so many years and how she learned to battle it. She has transformed from a worrier into a worshiper, meditating on the truth of God’s Word. She had a tough childhood, losing her dad at the age of four. The enemy was able to access her soul through childhood wounds and oppressed her with thoughts of sickness and disease. Fear comes in the same way faith comes in...through hearing.

Rita shared her testimony and that learning about the power of the spoken word completely changed her life and freed her from the bondage of worry. She explained how meditating on scripture opens up new meanings and allows the Lord to speak directly to you.  She talked about Pastor Furtick’s message about how often people will believe lies about themselves- lies someone else said, lies people tell themselves, or lies that the enemy plants. The way to overcome these lies is to first realize they are lies. Then, replace the lie with the truth- and the truth is what God says about you. So, if you say “I’m just a worrier”- realize that is a lie, and replace it with what God says which is you were not born with a spirit of fear. The battlefield is in the mind, and during this time of social isolation it is so important to recognize the battles you are fighting and to fight back.  We concluded with a prayer for President Trump and all world leaders. Specifically that President Trump would be protected from harm (physical and other) and that he would continue to hear from the Holy Spirit

Psalm 77 is a great psalm about a man that is battling worry. He has lost his way and doesn’t feel the presence of God anymore. God feels far away. In 77:2 he is having trouble sleeping. His mind won’t let him rest. He is worried. What is keeping you up at night? Have you been awake at worrying about your finances? worried you might get the virus?

Night time questions are dark and keep you on a loop that goes nowhere. Like the man in this psalm you start asking crazy questions. When you get anxious you start to worry about things that don’t even exist, you come to crazy conclusions. How do you break this cycle?  As we keep reading the psalmist shows us how to shift our perspective. It’s easier to blame God than to be accountable for our own attitudes and actions.

Don’t let doubt and self occupation cut you off in the middle of your story.

The shift in his perspective happens in the 10th verse. In Psalm 77:10 he goes from what if” to  “worship”.  He goes from himself to God. He is forcing himself to remember ALL that God has done for him. He is reminding himself who God is. Sometimes the only way forward is to circle back. We must remember how powerful and good our God is. Take a second and remember all He has done for you. When you are in the middle of the night it’s hard to remember how faithful He has been in your life. This is why the man said he had to “force” himself to remember how God brought him out in the past. Use all that energy and fear to recall all the times he has been with you.

77:19 says even when you don’t see it God is working. The Lord is your shepherd. God is your guide and is revealing himself to you all along the way. Sometimes we miss what’s right in front of us because we’re worried about what’s down the road.

Tonight is day 9 of our “14 Days of Prayer.” Amanda will be leading us.
